5 Minute Safety Topics
5 minute safety talks are the best way to reinforce the importance of workplace safety. Here are some great topics for you to keep in mind.
A crucial element of any safety program is defining the physical demands of the jobs being performed within your organization. In fact, having established and documented physical job demands affect recruiting, and hiring and plays a big role in the process of managing injured workers who want to return to the workplace after an injury.
Without having documented physical job demands, how do you know that you’re recruiting and hiring candidates who will be physically able to meet the demands of the job? And, how will your medical provider know whether an injured employee can return to work after a workplace accident if they don’t know what kind of physical demands that employee experiences during their work shift?
The answer to both questions is…you don’t.
This is why it’s so important to make sure you fully understand the physical demands being put onto your workers. The best way to do that is by evaluating each position within the company to determine things like the frequency of certain movements, dexterity requirements, exposures to things like chemicals, noise, temperature extremes, and what kinds of personal protective equipment (PPE) an employee might have to wear for long periods of time.
Not sure where to start? Let us help! By using our new Physical Job Demands Evaluation Template, you’ll be able to easily analyze and document everything necessary to paint a complete picture of the physical demands required by each one of your positions.
