Florida Bakery Faces $129K in OSHA Penalties

Hometown Foods USA, a Florida bakery doing business as Bagelmania Inc., is facing $129,145 in proposed penalties from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

OSHA cited Home Foods for 16 health and safety violations relating to machine guarding, forklift, and noise hazards. According to OSHA, the bakery failed to provide personal protective equipment, proper machine guarding on its equipment, and failed to implement emergency action, hazardous energy control, and hearing conservation programs. The bakery was also cited for failure to perform safety inspections and to provide training on its industrial trucks.

"Our inspection identified hazards that pose a serious threat to employees’ safety and health if not immediately corrected," said OSHA Area Director Condell Eastmond. "Hometown Foods USA needs to establish and implement an effective safety and health management system to protect its workers."
